very old caves which are described as the anthropological treaure
house of the world and which have been declared a World Heritage Site.
We tour the deep, dark and chilly interiors of the cave formed by a labarynth of ancient inter-connected caverns which were formed millions of years ago. Interesting shapes are formed where dolomite was eroded by water and these can be seen throughout the cave. It was in sections of the caves that are being explored that the skull of world renowned "Mrs Ples", a female who lived some 2 million years ago was found. The caves are owned by the University of the Witwatersrand and tours are done on half hour intervals. Get yourself booked on one of these tours for an "underworld" experience.
