Johannesberg - Gauteng - South Africa The museum is dedicated to reflecting the struggle by the black people of South Africa against the oppressive Apartheid system of
government. Synonymous with forced removals to remotely located
townships that made it extremely difficult to reach work and commercial
centres, Apartheid became the target of groups around the world with
the locals who were in exile in Europe and elsewhere at the forefront
of campaigns to unseat the Afrikaner dominated white government.
This museum portrays life during the struggle and honour the stalwarts who sometimes lost their lives in an effort to carve out a place for their descendants in a country belonging to all the South African sub-cultures. Too many of the local people were not allowed to vote or have a say in the running of the country and it was merely a matter of time before the icon of the struggle, Nelson Mandela (unfairly exiled to Robben Island for 20 years) emerged as the champion of a New South Africa. Historic, moving and a serious must see.
