The valley where the French Huegenot settlers first made wine in South
Africa some 300 years ago is one of the premier destinations in the
world of wine and the French influence is still to be found in the
names of the wine estates and wines made here.
A group of 43 wine farms in the valley produce many of the top wines in
the country. From superb whites such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay,
Semillon and
Chenin Blanc to the rich reds of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Noir
and Merlot. Not to mention the valley's renowned Cap Classique
Sparkling wines and Ports. And happily most farms
welcome visitors for tastings.
It does not do justice to the diversity of wines made here to mention
names but we will visit the following estates as part of this tour:
Boschendal Dieu Donne Vineyards
La Motte
LOrmarins Rupert and
Rothschild Vignerons
